Buffelsdrift Game Lodge is situated in a malaria free private safari game reserve and is home to an abundance of animal and birdlife including the BIG 4 - rhino, leopard, elephant and buffalo. Also included in this package is a visit to the the renown Cango Caves & Cango Crocodile Wildlife Ranch / Cheetah / Bengal Tiger Conservation & Wildlife Ranch.

After an early morning pickup, we depart for Buffelsdrift Game Lodge, from Cape Town via the N1 on the R62 towards the Karoo. Passing through Worcester, Robertson, stopping at the town of Barrydale and proceeding onwards to Carlitzdorp and Oudtshoorn, the next stop is Buffelsdrift Game Lodge for a rewarding safari experience.

Buffelsdrift Game Lodge offers guests a unique bushveld experience in the heart of the Klein Karoo – the gateway to South Africa’s scenic Garden Route. The authentic bushveld character of the area at the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains, has been preserved and the lush indigenous vegetation is representative of the Cape Floral Kingdom – South Africa’s 6th Natural World Heritage Site.

Situated 7km outside Oudtshoorn en route the Cango Caves, the Lodge is in the heart of Ostrich country.

Buffelsdrift Game Lodge offers guests a true African experience in the lap of luxury in a safe, malaria-free environment. Luxury accommodation, a restaurant and conference facilities that meet international standards are available to visitors and corporate guests. A charming wedding chapel at the water’s edge is the ideal setting for romantic African country weddings.

Pristine bushveld, lush vegetation and a 5 ha natural waterhole create a haven for a variety of game species and more than 217 bird species. Situated 7 km outside Oudtshoorn, the Lodge is in the heart of ostrich country, half-an-hour’s drive from the Swartberg Mountain Nature Reserve and the isolated valley of Gamkaskloof. It lies on the famous Route 62 and is part of the scenic circle route – Oudtshoorn – the Swartberg Mountain Pass – via the historic village of Prince Albert – through the spectacular Meiringspoort gorge as entrance to the quaint village of De Rust. A wide variety of game, bird and plant species are indigenous to this area and visitors will spot elephant, rhino, buffalo, hippo, Cape Mountain zebra, giraffe and other antelope.

The luxury tents, conference venue, restaurant and wedding chapel are on the edge of the waterhole and offer breathtaking views of the Klein Karoo. Trained guides will escort guest on an early morning or later afternoon bush safari with a pitstop at one of the lookout points – presenting the perfect opportunity for spectacular photographs. Ice-cold sundowners served on the lookout deck next to the open-air bar mark the end of a perfect day with the sun setting over the mountains.

Buffelsdrift Game Lodge Accommodation:
The 25 luxury tents on the edge of the natural waterhole offer beautiful views of the spacious Klein Karoo landscape. Each has its own wooden deck overlooking the water where guests can relax, admire the view and spot the game.

The tents are all situated in unique Karoo landscape and guests and baggage will be transported from the safe parking lot in cute golf carts to their accommodation. The environment is one of quiet solitude that offers peace of mind. The ideal place to read your favourite book, go for a long walk or simply appreciate the beauty of nature.

The Game Lodge offers 25 tastefully decorated en-suite tents with full air-conditioning, a separate shower, each with its own entrance and private wooden deck on the edge of the waterhole. Guests book in from 12 pm, unpack their bags before opting for a refreshing drink, a taste of the local cuisine or one of the various outdoor excursions that the Lodge has to offer – or – they can simply kick back and relax!

Meal Venue:
The Buffelsdrift Game Lodge Restaurant offers an à la carte or buffet menu that specializes in local Karoo cuisine – homemade preserves, chutney, pickles – fresh produce and herbs from the area as well as a variety of freshly baked oven bread. The selected wine list is a true representation of excellent South African wine and offers guests some of the best award-winning wines on the R62 – the longest wine route in South Africa.

Outdoor Activities:

  • Take a bush safari in an open game vehicle to a panoramic lookout point where refreshments will be enjoyed while taking in the natural beauty of the environment and pay homage to the majestic Swartberg Mountains.
  • Game viewing on horseback is also an option – guests will be escorted by a trained guide to get a closer view of game roaming the vast undulating hills.
  • Walk with an elephant in the late afternoon to the waterhole and see the sun set on the horizon.
  • Elephant feeding offers an opportunity to interact with our elephants and get to know these gentle giants.
  • Early birds can take a guided nature walk into the veld to appreciate the splendour of indigenous Karoo succulents and fynbos or catch up on their bird watching.

Directions:

Buffelsdrift Game Lodge is 60 km from George airport. Travellers will take the N12 which becomes Route 62 via the spectacular Outeniqua Mountain Pass to Oudtshoorn. Or via the R328 to Mossel Bay and travel with the Robinson Pass over the Attaquas Kloof to Oudtshoorn. The Lodge is 4 hours from the mother city of Cape Town and is on the scenic Route 62, better known as the 'Longest Wine Route in the World' with Calitzdorp as the 'Port capital of South Africa'.
