Imofolosi Game Park. We explore the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve,
Africa's oldest reserve and home to the “Big Five”,
first declared a Game Sanctuary in 1887 before which it was hunting
ground for the Zulu kings such as Dingiswayo and Shaka. It is
also internationally acclaimed for its conservation efforts and
boasts the largest population of Black and White Rhino in the
world. The park covers 96 000 ha and the wide range of plant life
hosts a diversity of mammals, birdlife, reptiles and amphibians.
Animals to be seen include The Big Five – lion, rhino, elephant,
buffalo and leopard, other species including cheetah, wild dog,
blue wildebeest, warthog, and giraffe as well as a varied antelope
such as impala, waterbuck, common and mountain reedbuck, bushbuck,
kudu, steenbuck and duiker. Over 300 species of birds have been
recorded.
We stop at
a restcamp for lunch, and depart for our luxury accommodation
at the private Leopard Mountain Game Lodge, an
award winning 4 star lodge located high up in
the wild secluded hills of the 23 000 ha Zululand Black Rhino
Reserve; home to the Big 4 (rhino, elephant, buffalo and

in Zululand, overlooking a vast stretch of unspoiled bushland
and riverine forests, from the Umsunduze River meandering below
to the distant Lebombo Mountains.

perfect backdrop of the African bushveld lends itself to the perfect
setting for a romantic getaway or an authentic wildlife experience.
Your luxurious stone and thatch chalet provides a haven of peace

an open vehicle to look for game. The day is rounded off with
a superb dinner.
