Itinerary
Day 1:
A Wild Africa Safari Co Land Rover will collect you at 7am for the drive up the north coast where we stop to visit Shakaland for a Zulu Cultural experience. One can feel the pulsating rhythm of mysterious and magical Africa as you re-live the excitement and romance of the days of Shaka, King of the Zulus, in this authentic re-creation of the Great Kraal overlooking the Phobane Lake. Experience the sight of assegai-wielding warriors, share the fascinating secrets of the Sangomas and witness traditional customs such as tribal dancing, spear making and the beer-drinking ceremonies. A traditional lunch rounds off this experience.

We depart for our luxury accommodation at the private Leopard Mountain Game Lodge, an award winning 4 star lodge located high up in the wild secluded hills of the 23 000 ha Zululand Black Rhino Reserve; home to the Big 4 (rhino, elephant, buffalo and leopard). The lodge has one of the most spectacular views in Zululand, overlooking a vast stretch of unspoiled bushland and riverine forests, from the Umsunduze River meandering below to the distant Lebombo Mountains.

This picture perfect backdrop of the African bushveld lends itself to the perfect setting for a romantic getaway and an authentic wildlife experience. Your luxurious stone and thatch chalet provides a haven of peace and tranquillity where you can watch the sun and moon rise over an African plain that has not changed since before the birth of man. Each chalet is light and spacious with its own private balcony and hammock, incredible view, en-suite bathroom, mini bar and tea and coffee facilities. The main lodge features a very comfortable dining room, bar, lounge and deck area and a unique rock pool to cool off while still enjoying the amazing view.

The reserve includes an abundance of game, including leopard, cheetah, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, jackals, genets, hyenas, porcupines and a wide diversity of flora and prolific bird life.

After a short rest and a dip in the pool, its time for a sunset game drive and sundowners in an open vehicle to look for game in the Zululand Black Rhino Reserve. The day is rounded off with a superb dinner.

Day 2:
This morning we explore the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, Africa's oldest reserve and home to the “Big Five”, first declared a Game Sanctuary in 1887 before which it was hunting ground for the Zulu kings such as Dingiswayo and Shaka. It is also internationally acclaimed for its conservation efforts and boasts the largest population of Black and White Rhino in the world. The park covers 96 000 ha and the wide range of plant life hosts a diversity of mammals, birdlife, reptiles and amphibians. Animals to be seen include The Big Five – lion, rhino, elephant, buffalo and leopard, other species including cheetah, wild dog, blue wildebeest, warthog, and giraffe as well as a varied antelope such as impala, waterbuck, common and mountain reedbuck, bushbuck, kudu, steenbuck and duiker. Over 300 species of birds have been recorded.

The Morning Game drive is followed by lunch. After lunch the guests can swim or laze by the pool and enjoy an afternoon siesta before heading out on a sunset game drive from the lodge.

Day 3:
An early morning game drive, or a sleep in if one chooses. We then head for the Cheetah and Serval Project for an opportunity to see these amazing predatory cats up close. At this project there is a rare opportunity to touch hand reared Serval and Caracal. This is a highlight to many of our guests. The aim of the project is to care for wild Cheetah and Serval Cats, which have been orphaned or injured in the wild and are in need of care and rehabilitation. The centre also breeds where possible and releases the offspring back into their natural habitat.

After leaving the project we stop to view the local crafts and enjoy a relaxing lunch. The 3 day safari will depart for Durban and a St Lucia Wetland Park boat cruise, while 4 day safari has a choice of either game viewing at Hluhluwe Imfolosi, or enjoying some time at the lodge followed by a sunset game drive and dinner.

We check out of the lodge and head for the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site, with its fascinating wetland area that has some of the highest vegetated dunes in the world, and many wildlife and bird species. We depart on a 2-hour boat cruise to look for hippos, crocodiles, fish-eagle, heron, mangroves, kingfishers and other species. The 4-Day Safari departs for Durban after disembarking, and arrives around late afternoon.
